"My advisor has been very supportive, especially by connecting me with excellent work and research opportunities."
Why I chose Berkeley:
Of all the schools that accepted me, I felt Berkeley was the best school in terms of its academic program and research emphasis. It has a great reputation, and they offered me a fellowship. The flexibility of the program also appealed to me, and it was in the San Francisco Bay Area, which was a big plus.
My current work:
I am working on projects with Policy Analysis for California Education (PACE), one of the research centers at Berkeley. The projects involve the California Children and Family Commission and "Growing Up in Poverty" (GUP). In addition, I am working on the "Full Option Science System" at the Lawrence Hall of Science. My advisor has been very supportive, especially by connecting me with excellent work and research opportunities.
Advice for prospective POME students:
Be prepared to commit a minimum of four years in the program. You'll have a lot to do, and you'll want to make the most of the opportunities that will be presented to you as a Berkeley graduate student. Also, plan ahead, particularly in taking the necessary courses and meeting the program requirements.
What I like best about living in the Bay Area:
The weather is great here, and there's no smog. There's lots of great food and interesting places to go, and there is always a ton of fun stuff to do in San Francisco.
