Center for Urban Education

Activities

The Center for Urban Education (CUE) seeks to promote collaboration between faculty and students across Graduate School of Education (GSE) departments and with faculty, students, community members and school-based practitioners outside the Berkeley GSE. To promote this, the CUE has been involved in the following types of activities:

Spencer Research Training Fellowships:

CUE works with students who have Spencer Research Training Fellowships, to support their research and provide them with links to other students and professors, and to CUE affiliates and council members. We do this through an urban education research seminar and through community research projects.

Urban Education Research Seminar:

This is a seminar for Spencer-funded graduate students working with CUE. Students meet in a regular seminar, allowing student researchers to present, collaborate and explore their research related to urban education.

Urban Education Research Seminar Calendar Events:

Upcoming Urban Education Research Seminar events will be posted here in the future.

Some past events have been:

  • Pedro Noguera speaking about "Relationship between Theory and Methods in Research." Lance McCready and Indigo Esmonde speaking about their Spencer research projects.

  • Steve Jubb speaking of "Research and Practice in Education" Jean Wing, Anne Okahara and Joe Flessa presented their work.

  • CUE faculty members and Spencer Research Fellows holding a retreat at the Marconi Conference Center on Tomales Bay.

Research Projects:

Where possible, CUE attempts to link student researchers to actual sites of practice so that students can engage in real world research. Every Spencer-funded graduate student working with CUE has the opportunity to work with a CUE affiliate or council member on a project in the community or the university.
