High Performance Learning Communities

The goal of the High Performance Learning Community (HPLC) project is to work with schools in high poverty areas to develop strategies that communities across the United States can adapt to their own situations and circumstances in order to attain and sustain high levels of academic achievement for all students. To accomplish this, the HPLC project proposes a set of core HPLC principles and a cololaborative, dynamic process of research and development among school communities and non-school based partners.

The HPLC five-year partnership includes:

Co-developer schools and districts in the states of California and Oregon

Research, Policy, and Practice International (RPPI)

A research group from the University of California at Berkeley (UCB)

The HPLC Support Team:

• California Tomorrow (CAT),
• Bay Area Coalition of Essential Schools (BayCES),
• The Oregon Department of Education (ODE).

This is the Web page for the Research Group at the University of California at Berkeley headed by Dr. Eugene Garcia. The questions that follow reflect the interests and priorities that will shape the HPLC research component. Each question or set of questions has been aligned with one of the five core HPLC principles.
