CREW PROJECTS 

CREW is currently accepting research funding applications from graduate students whose work focuses on education and learning.

CREW-supported graduate student research projects for 1997-98 include:

Spring 1997 awards

Raymond June. A study of scientists÷ work in the Czech Republic.

Mira Katz. A study of workplace literacy.

Isaac Mankita. A study of technology, skill, and schooling in TV manufacturing in the US and Mexico.

Margaret Perrow. Pilot research in South African youth-development (education and employment) NGOs.

Debra Polak, Greta Vollmer, Amanda Godley, and Jane Stanley. A reflexive inquiry of teaching and learning discourse in the Graduate School of Education at Berkeley.

Jean Yonemura Wing. A study of school-to-work at Berkeley High.

Patricia Young-Mitchell. A pilot study of a Summer Youth Employment Training Program.

Fall 1997 awards

Helen Duffy. A study of learning in a corporation undergoing technology changes.

Tony Mirabelli. A study of in-person service-worker skills in a restaurant.

Margaret Perrow. Fieldwork in a South African NGO, considering the multiple meanings of learning.

Jennifer Curry Villeneuve. A study of college internship programs.


Note:

Recipients of CREW funding are invited to participate in a bi-weekly, year-long, 2-unit research seminar sponsored by CREW and led by Professor David Stern. In addition, recipients will be asked to submit a brief report of their research, as well as any completed papers. They will also be asked to participate in a CREW panel luncheon presentation, at which each recipient will present a brief overview of their project.
