Wai'anae High School Hawaiian Studies Program

Integrating theory and practice, CREDE has formed partnerships with schools applying the Five Standards in ways that can be effectively measured and assessed.

Although the Five Standards can be found in use in various degrees in countless classrooms across the country, the demonstration schools offer an unprecedented means for implementing and observing the standards comprehensively and systematically.

The schools, Starlight Elementary School in Watsonville, California, and Waianae High School in Waianae, Hawaii, are providing opportunities to apply the Five Standards to diverse age, language, and income groups.

CREDE researchers work closely with staff and administrators at the schools, providing comprehensive training in the Five Standards. Teachers and CREDE teams then work collaboratively to measure student achievement, experiment with program variations, and test the integration of the Five Standards pedagogy with classroom curriculum. Assessment activities include classroom visits, videotaping, observation of teacher practice, and consultation with the staff (live and electronically).

These real-life assessments and refinements are enabling the CREDE team to move closer to the goal of designing full programs that may be used in any classroom, with any demographic, so that every student can realize their full academic potential. Contact us to learn more about the schools or to arrange for site visits.
