In order to trace the development of conceptions of good education, we have performed a detailed analysis of the educational concepts present in the transcripts of a set of semi-structured, probed, clinical interviews of a life-span sample of participants. In the initial analysis, over 500 concepts with distinct features have been identified--an unwieldy number. In an effort to develop a non-arbitrary and theoretically driven method for reducing the number of categories without losing developmental information, we have come up with a means for conducting preliminary visual inspections of the data. In order to produce these time-lines efficiently, the project will develop software that can convert raw data into graphic form. This software will be flexible enough to be useful to a range of researchers with a variety of research aims. The principal investigator is Mark Wilson.
