Literacy Assessment Teams: Linking Pre-Service Training and the Needs of Classroom Teachers

This project seeks to impact student literacy achievement in grades K-2 by providing classroom teachers with timely and appropriate assessment data on student literacy development. The project uses literacy assessment teams that administer individualized qualitative assessments in literacy in K-2 classrooms at Malcolm X School in the Berkeley Unified School District. Assessment team members administer assessment measures, interpret them, and generate individual and whole class "literacy profiles." Along with the assessment gathering and reporting, the project provides inservice training to teachers on the nature of the measures and the interpretation of the scores.

This project is funded through the office of Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Carol Christ. The principal investigator is Richard McCallum.
