The Learning and Development Program. This program consists of a number of projects concerned most generally with issues of growth and change. These projects are quite diverse in focus, ranging from basic research and theory on learning and development through the orchestration of learning (instruction) to the evaluation of learning processes and outcomes (assessment). They also involve different subject populations, including children varying considerably in age (toddlers and preschoolers through junior high students) and ability (normal through special education placements), and adults (regular and special education classroom teachers). In addition, learning is studied in both laboratory settings and a variety of classroom environments. The Spencer project provides money to conduct an historical overview of school reform in the 20th century and the psychological basis of that reform. It provides historical and public policy settings for all of the above research.
The principal investigator of the Learning and Development Program is Joseph C. Campione.
