CISTL Past Events

CISTL prides itself on offering opportunities for students and faculty to engage in deep face-to-face dialogue. Our evens reflect a commitment to learning together as a professional community. We welcome students from across the Graduate School of Education (GSE) and seek to bridge disciplinary boundaries. As such, one CISTL tradition is to introduce ourselves without disclosing our affliation with GSE areas/programs.

2002:

January, Data Day

This event provided an opportunity for students to bring samples of raw data for joint analysis. A dozen students attended along with two faculty members.

March, Major Issues Day

This event featured parallel sessions on discourse and video analysis, as well as a meaty panel discussion on the ethics and politics of research. 25 people participated (4 faculty members and 21 students).

October, Mini “Work-in-Progress” Retreat

CISTL launched the 2002-2003 academic year with a mini-retreat held October 12th at Professor Judith Warren Little's home. The schedule for the day engaged 15 participants (1st – 5th year doctoral students, as well as three faculty members) in 2 intensive “work-in-progress” sessions conducted with small consultation groups of 3-4 people. We also deepened connections across our professional community during a delicious lunch and an after hours reception.
