CISTL Upcoming Events:
Please join CISTL for the following upcoming events! Students
at all stages of study are welcome! Events will be held at the UCB Faculty
Club and will include a box lunch.
Saturday, February
22nd- 2Ps – Proposals & Prospectuses.
This event will be a hands on opportunity to deepen our understanding
of the proposal genre (both dissertation & grant proposals). We
anticipate that the day will feature: 1) a panel of professors/students
speaking about proposals and strategies for optimizing the proposal
meeting, 2) a discussion of proposal writing as a genre, 3) an opportunity
to examine model proposals in small groups, and 4) a working session
where students currently writing proposals can receive peer feedback.

If you would like to have your proposal be peer reviewed, drafts must
be submitted electronically to Becky by 2/12/03. Please indicate this
intention in your RSVP so we can organize appropriately.

– 2 more Ps - Presentations & Publications.
As the season for job talks gets into swing and AERA & GSE Research
Day approach, CISTL invites GSE students to a hands on working session
devoted to improving presentation skills and pursuing publication. While
still in the planning stages, this event will likely feature: 1) a panel
of professors/students speaking about effective presentations, 2) a
demonstration and evaluation of power point techniques (the good, the
bad, and the ugly), 3) a discussion of pre-publication “do's &
don'ts”, and finally, 4) an opportunity for students/professors
to conduct dry-runs of upcoming presentations in small consultation
