The Functions Group
This project explores aspects
of students' understandings of the mathematical concepts. Among the
issues explored are:
- What is the nature of mathematical understanding,
and how can it best be characterized?
- How do students understand
various mathematical representations
- What intuitive understandings
might help students come to grips with the mathematical notion of
functions, especially linear functions?
- How can we better understand teaching and learning,
in order to help students engage effectively with rich mathematics?
Alan H. Schoenfeld
is the principal investigator.
