Leadership Support Program

The Leadership Support Program (LSP) is a professional level credential (commonly known as the Tier II) program designed to build on the work that candidates completed in the Principal Leadership Institute (PLI). The LSP is a support to new administrators who are managing the complex ecology of the urban school and district. These new administrators are reform-minded leaders who, first and foremost, commit to improving the quality of achievement for all students. Through the LSP components (detailed below), novice administrators expand and deepen their expertise in the knowledge, skills and dispositions required for successful leadership in urban schools.

The LSP offers a comprehensive and cohesive program for frontline novice administrators to connect their practice to theory in these ways: using reflection for growth and development, collecting data at the school site, individualizing the program to meet the needs of adult learners, continuing and targeted professional development, and honing skills in site-based inquiry and data-driven decision-making.

The components of the program are:

  • Individual Induction Plans
  • Formal mentoring: Coaches and Principal In Residence
  • Informal mentoring via email and phone
  • Monthly seminars for three years (9 per year)
  • School and Community Mapping (year 1)
  • Eyes on the Prize projects (year 2)
  • Site-based inquiry projects (year 3)
  • Three professional development institutes per school year
  • Courage to Leader Workshop (year 1 and 2)
  • Additional professional development (choice of candidate), including professional reading
  • Documentation through Professional Development Plan and Documentation (PD2)
  • Professional Portfolios and Portfolio Conversations (year 3)
  • Assessments (Rubrics, Verifications for Credential)
