M.A. in Reading/Reading and Language Arts Specialist Credential Program
This program is currently under review. Please contact the Education Admissions Office before applying.
The
Advanced Reading
and Language Leadership Program (ARLLP) leads to an M.A. degree and to a Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential. Students in the program are established education professionals seeking advanced studies that focus on leadership in language and literacy. The program provides educators with the theoretical and professional knowledge necessary to develop innovative reading and language curricula and to develop leadership skills to implement them successfully. The courses and field seminars include current reading and language issues such as whole-language and literature-based programs, multicultural needs, diverse language needs, and related multimedia technology. The program goes beyond the basic reading/language arts specialist requirements set by the State Department of Education by offering students a program centered around language and literacy development and school intervention through inservice leadership development. Applicants for the Reading/Language Arts Specialist Credential must have three years of teaching experience in a public school setting.
