Returning or Continuing UC Berkeley Graduate Students
These instructions are intended for any applicant who was previously or is currently registered as a graduate student on the UC Berkeley campus, including current GSE students applying for an additional degree.
The deadline to apply for the Fall 2012 semester is December 2, 2011, for all programs except for the Principal Leadership Institute (December 16, 2011) and the Leadership for Educational Equity Program (January 18, 2012).
- Submit online Graduate Division Application for Admissions and Fellowships
- Statement of Purpose — Upload pdf into online Graduate Application.
- Official transcripts
from all college-level institutions attended — scanned and uploaded into online Graduate Application. If you are a returning GSE student, please confirm with the Admissions Office that your original transcripts are still on file. If you are a student from another UC Berkeley graduate department, you may have copies of transcripts sent directly from your home department.
- Three Letters of Recommendation — submitted by recommenders through online Graduate Application.
- Required Examinations. See Examinations page.

- Graduate Petition for Change of Major or Degree Goal. Available for download from the Registrar's Office. Required signatures will be obtained by the Admissions Office.
In addition, returning graduate students must also submit:
- Application for Readmission - Graduate, including the Statement of Legal Residence. Available for download from the Registrar's Office. Required signatures will be obtained by the Admissions Office.
- $80 Application fee (Make check or money order payable to UC
Regents.)
