Coburn, Hiebert Receive Recognition from Reading Association
The International Reading Association (IRA) presented prestigious awards to School of Education assistant professor Cynthia Coburn and adjunct professor Elfrieda (Freddy) Hiebert at their annual convention, May 4-8, in Atlanta, Georgia. Nearly 20,000 reading educators were in attendance, including GSE Dean P. David Pearson.
Coburn received the International Reading Association’s (IRA) 2008 Albert J. Harris Award for her article "Framing the Problem of Reading Instruction: Using Frame Analysis to Uncover the Microprocesses of Policy Implementation," which was published inthe American Educational Research Journal last year. The Harris Award is given to the author of a recently published journal article or monograph that makes an outstanding contribution to the understanding of prevention or assessment of reading or learning disabilities.
Hiebert was installed into the association’s Reading Hall of Fame for her outstanding contributions to the field of literacy. IRA also honored Hiebert with the William S. Gray Citation of Merit, which recognizes a nationally or internationally known person for contributions to the field of reading.
Members of the Reading Hall of Fame, composed of leaders in the literacy field, contribute to further improvement in reading instruction through presentations, publications, research, and other means.
