Timothy White (Ph.D. ’77), has been selected chancellor of UC Riverside. White, who will take office in September, is currently president of the University of Idaho. Previously he worked as a faculty member in physiology, kinesiology and human biodynamics at the University of Michigan, UC Berkeley and Oregon State University, where he also served as provost and interim president.
Nancy Skinner (M.A. ’89) won the Democratic primary for the East Bay’s 14th Assembly District on June 3. Skinner, an East Bay Regional Park District Board member and former Berkeley City Council member, bested a very competitive field, and is the favorite to take over the Assembly seat now held by Berkeley’s Loni Hancock.
Maris Thompson, who just earned her Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, Society and Culture in May (and her M.A. in 2003), has accepted a position as assistant professor at CSU-Chico’s College of Eduation in the area of Literacy and Culture.
Michigan State assistant professor Michelle Williams (Ph.D. ’04) and University of Pittsburg assistant professor Jennifer Russell (Ph.D. ’07) were featured for their exemplary work in recent issues of their respective alumni magazines.
Cliff Hong, who will graduate from PLI in Fall '08, has been named one of 20 emerging young leaders by Phi Delta Kappan for his leadership as a teacher at Edna Brewer School in Oakland Unified.
Julia Menard-Warwick (Ph.D. ’04), a Berkeley Graduate Fellowship recipient, writes about her experience in “Life and Language,” a "Grad Spotlight" feature on the UC Berkeley’s Graduate Division website.
Pamela Lichtenwalner (M.A. '96) spoke on "Scientology in Public Education in America" at FECRIS (European Federation of Centres of Research and Information on Sectarianism) in Pisa, Italy.
