GSE Heads East for AERA Conference
More than 100 education researchers from UC Berkeley were among nearly 20,000 education officials from colleges and universities; federal, state and local agencies; think tanks; foundations; and the private sector in attendance when the American Education Research Association (AERA) held its annual conference in New York, March 24–28. Some 2,400 scholars presented peer-reviewed research findings at the Annual Meeting.
School of Education personnel also received several honors:
Mahiri celebrates his mentoring award with Dean Pearson and Baquedano-López. Associate Professor Jabari Mahiri recieved the Mentoring Award given by Division G - Social Contexts of Education. This award recognizes a scholar who has made distinguished contributions in the mentoring of undergraduate and Ph.D. students, as well as junior scholars, contributing to the development of a new generation of scholars who focus on social contexts of education
Little and Mary Sandy from UC Davis chat at the AERA reception. Professor Judith Warren Little was honored as one of the top 10 reviewers of the American Educational Research Journal/Social and Institutional Analysis for 2007. AERJ/SIA co-editors Sandra Hollingsworth and Margaret Gallego noted that "her reviews were not only timely but prepared with a deep understanding of the field of research, and a compassionate voice."
In addition, UC Berkeley alumna Lorraine McDonnell began her term as president of AERA at the conclusion of the conference.Next year's conference will be held in San Diego April 13–17.
