Matching Gifts

Hundreds of companies match their employees' gifts to UC Berkeley. You receive credit for your matching gifts for recognition purposes. For receipting and tax purposes, the matched portion of the gift must be recorded on the company's record.

Securities

Securities can be transferred directly from your brokerage account to the University's account. Securities are recorded based on the mean market value of the stock on the date of gift, which is the date you relinquish control of the stock.

For more information, please call the GSE's Office of Development and External Relations at 510-643-9784, or call University Relations at 510-642-4123 or e-mail givesecurities@berkeley.edu. Please be sure to specify that your gift should be directed to the GSE.

Bequests and Gift Planning

Gift planning may enable you to satisfy personal financial planning needs in addition to providing the University with important, long-term support. Some gift plans may provide income for life (or a term of years), an immediate income tax charitable deduction, avoidance of capital gains tax, and professional asset management (if the University serves as trustee). Options include pooled income funds, charitable remainder trusts, and charitable gift annuities, as well as gifts of real estate, life insurance, and retirement assets.

If a gift is made through your will, you obtain significant estate tax benefits.

For more information, please call the GSE's Office of Development and External Relations at 510-643-9784, or call University Relations' Office of Planned Giving at 510-642-6300.
