Development and External Relations
Giving Overview
Private support has had an enormous impact on
the GSE's ability to develop a pipeline of educational leadership
throughout the state. The Flanders Fellows program, established by
Mary Jane Brinton in honor of nationally recognized educator Ned Flanders,
has provided fellowship funds for nearly 300 students over the past
several years. The Kenneth E. Behring Institute for Educational Improvement
provides scholarships for 50 aspiring principals annually. These outstanding
GSE graduates continue to leverage their Berkeley educations to improve
equity and achievement in our urban public schools.

The Graduate School of Education
gratefully accepts gifts—both large and small—in support of
students, faculty, research, and outreach. Gifts to the GSE support
a community of scholars working to improve understanding of development,
learning, teaching, and the contexts in which they take place.
Private support helps scholars and practitioners explore how to
make life better for learners of all ages and backgrounds.
We are all stakeholders in California's education system. Over
the past 30 years, our public schools have fallen from among
the best in the country to among the worst. The School works
from the premise that education theory and practice are synergistic.
At no time in the history of education has it been more important
to ensure that the two enterprises—research and practice—resonate
together.
We welcome your participation in this important work!
