T
he Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Berkeley is an exciting place to work and study—a genuine community of scholars dedicated to improving our understanding of the processes of development, learning, and teaching and the contexts in which they take place. The work of the faculty and students in the school is grounded equally in theory and practice. We work from the premise that the two enterprises are synergistic—that theory informs practice as much as practice informs theory. At no time in the history of education has it been more important to make sure that theory and practice resonate together.
We are currently expanding our commitments to teacher and administrator preparation and school-based research. As we undertake this much-needed expansion, we will redouble our efforts to ensure that our programs of preparation and research are based upon solid conceptions of teaching, learning, and development. If you want to engage in conversations about the big ideas in education and if you are prepared to ask how those ideas can make life better for students and their parents and teachers, then Berkeley's Graduate School of Education is the right place for you to pursue your studies.
